Approximately 100 Zoró families reside in the northwestern regions of Mato Grosso and southeastern Rondônia. Together, they will contribute an average of 2.3 tons of processed Brazil nuts per month to Conab's Food Acquisition Program (PAA) throughout eight months in 2024.

This initiative is a result of a proposal put forth by COOPERAPIZ (COOPERATIVA DE PRODUCAO DO POVO INDIGENA ZORO), responding to a PAA Notice from CONAB in 2023. COOPERAPIZ outlined the delivery of 192 kg of almond-processed Brazil nuts from each family, totaling 19 tons over eight months.

Priced at R$ 78.00 reais per kg, the revenue generated from Cooperapiz's sale of these nuts will enhance the Zoro indigenous people's ability to acquire fresh nuts, fortify extraction and almond processing eorts.

The vacuum-packed and dehydrated product resulting from this cooperative eort will be distributed to three schools in Rondolândia, MT, within the Zoró Indigenous Land. Additionally, social assistance organizations in Ji-Paraná, RO, will benefit, reaching approximately 7 thousand people monthly.

Beyond providing income and aligning with Conab's mission, the Zoró families' endeavor supports the standing forest movement, emphasizing sustainable income generation. Conab, a nationwide public company, is dedicated to agricultural intelligence and contributes to formulating and executing public policies for the sector.
